“Every dollar the General Assembly delivers to cities and towns in the form of municipal aid is a dollar saved for property taxpayers,” said Duff. “We know property taxes alone cannot support all the function of city government. Our historic investment in cities and towns provides, for the first time, a dedicated funding stream that local budgets can count on. The result: additional funding for education and property tax relief.”
Duff said providing tax relief to constituents is a collaborative effort.
“Thanks to the hard work of Mayor Rilling and the Common Council to hold the line on spending and running a fiscally responsible administration, this funding is being put to good use,” he said.
Norwalk’s financial gains can also be attributed to the efforts of Duff, who led the charge to increase funding for the city’s schools.
As a result, it is estimated that Norwalk will receive more than $800,000 in additional education funding over the course of the state’s biennium budget.
Additionally, as a result of the state’s investment in cities and towns through a dedicated revenue source, Norwalk is estimated to receive a $6.7 million increase in municipal aid, which will also help efforts to keep property taxes in check.
“Thanks to the hard work, fiscal discipline and smart investments of this team we are holding the line on taxes in Norwalk,” Rilling said. “Our state delegation in Hartford, led by Sen. Duff, have increased the overall amount of state money that the city of Norwalk is receiving.
“Meanwhile the City of Norwalk, along with the Common Council, are cutting unnecessary spending, making long term investments and increasing our grand list. Businesses and families across Connecticut and the tri-state area are seeing this momentum and are moving here to Norwalk."
