Teen Nabbed For Stealing Two Vehicles, Crashing BMW, In Fairfield County, Police Say

A man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a Fairfield County home and stealing keys to a BMW, then stealing the vehicle and crashing it.

Charles Wood Wright, age 18, of New Canaan, was arrested on Sunday, July 11, following the crash which place on Heritage Hill Road, said the New Canaan Police.

According to police, officers responded to a crash involving a BMW which had struck a tree located off the road. When officers arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied and heavily damaged.

Officers then went to a home on Park Street where the vehicle was registered where it was determined that someone had entered their home through an unlocked door and removed the keys, before stealing the vehicle and crashing it on Heritage Hill Road, police said.

Investigating officers were able to locate a male who was identified earlier in the evening as Wright stumbling and walking barefoot on Heritage Hill Road.

Upon speaking with Wright, officers determined that he had a key to a stolen mini-van out of Kent, in Litchfield County, in his pocket. 

He also admitted to entering the residence on Park Street and removed a key from inside the residence for the BMW and then stole the BMW and later crashed it.

Wright was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Burglary
  • Two counts of larceny
  • Failure to drive right
  • Evading responsibility 

He was released on a $10,000 bond.
