Sentrell Bookhardt Of Norwalk Gets 5 Years For Machine Gun Possession

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was sentenced to five years in prison on federal weapons charges Tuesday, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Deirdre M. Daly said in a press release.

Sentrell Bookhardt, 27, of Norwalk, was arrested by Norwalk Police in January 2013 at the Meadow Gardens public housing complex. Bookhardt discarded a backpack as he ran from police, and officers later found a machine gun in the bag, according to police reports. The gun had an extended clip, which was loaded with 27 rounds, according to the press release.

Bookhardt pleaded guilty in October to one count of possession of an unregistered machine gun, a federal crime. Bookhardt had also been convicted of state weapons offenses in 2004, 2006 and 2010, according to state judicial records.

Bookhardt had been in state custody since his arrest last year. On Tuesday U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny sentenced him to 60 months in prison plus three years of supervised release.
