The report of shots fired came at about 1:30 p.m. in the center of the SoNo business district, Lt. Tom Mattera said. Mattera said that one male fired two to three shots at a group of three other males.

The shots were fired down and straight toward Water Street, Mattera said. Nobody was injured in the incident, and the intended targets have not yet been identified, he said.

"We would like those people to come in and talk to us," Mattera said.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male in his 20s with a goatee. Mattera said he was wearing a hoodie and some type of face mask, which he removed as he fled the area.

Officers detained three men and placed them in handcuffs, holding them near Famous Pizza, but later released all three, police said.

Officers are in the preliminary stages of investigating the incident, Mattera said, and are still conducting interviews with witnesses. No shell casing or projectiles had been located Wednesday afternoon.

Traffic was slowed to a crawl Wednesday as a large police presence covered the area after the shooting. The three men who were handcuffed outside Famous Pizza were walked out into the street as police drove witnesses by. After about an hour, the three were uncuffed and released. Police said that two of the men may have been the intended targets of the shooting, however, they are not cooperating with police.

Anybody with information about the incident is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 203-854-3011.
