Tishawn Maile was held in lieu of a $2,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court Friday.
According to Norwalk Police Sgt. Lisa Cotto, Maile took $20 in cash, a silver ring and a Swiss Army knife from the home, and was attempting to take a Sony laptop computer and Vivitar camera from the home when the homeowners discovered the items were missing.
Police recovered all the items.
Area police have issued warnings to homeowners impacted by Hurricane Sandy to be on the lookout for scams related to the storm, such as people posing as FEMA workers or people offering to clean homes.
