Michael Mejia-Diaz was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, possession of marijuana and second-degree breach of peace. He was held on $10,000 bond and will appear in court Sept. 17.
Two 28-year-old women told police that they were at a bar in South Norwalk on Saturday night, where Mejia-Diaz kept bumping into one of them and trying to grope her, according to police reports.
The women left the bar shortly after midnight and were walking to their car in the parking lot on North Water Street when Mejia-Diaz ran up to them, police said.
Mejia-Diaz was holding a stick and yelled at the women to give him their cellphones, according to police reports. The two women spotted a nearby police car and started screaming, at which point Mejjia-Diaz took off running, police said.
The women gave a description of their assailant to the officer, who searched the area and found Mejia-Diaz nearby, police said.
He was out of breath as if he had just been running, and the two women positively identified him as the person who tried to rob them, police said.
Officers searched Mejia-Diaz and found several baggies containing cocaine, as well as individually wrapped baggies of marijuana, police said. He was then taken into custody.
