The loan amount and type of car were not disclosed, but the resident, who lives on Columbine Lane, had been out of the country for an extended period of time when the incident was recently discovered and reported on Thursday, according to police.
The family believes personal information was obtained during a burglary at the home, which took place sometime between November 2009 and May 2010, but the loan was apparently obtained more recently.
In a separate case, a North Seir Hill Road resident reported Thursday that they had been contacted by their bank, CapitalOne, where officials said $6,000 had been withdrawn from one of their accounts.
Two withdrawals were made for $3,000 each at CapitalOne branches in New York, according to police, and at one of the branches the suspect also obtained a bank card in the person’s name. The suspect then went to an unnamed jewelry store and tried to buy $25,000 worth of jewelry but was denied.
In the third case, a Richards Avenue resident's identity was stolen and several store credit cards were set up in the victim's name.
So far, only one purchase was made with one of the fake accounts, a $750 television by an unnamed person in California, police said.
