A family received a letter in the mail from the "Bono Lotto" indicating that the recipient has won $4.5 million.

The letter directs the recipient to call a phone number to claim their prize. Police said that if the call is placed, the caller will eventually be asked for their bank information and to send a check for $850 to a location in Nevada in order to claim their prize.

Police are advising residents that the letter is a scam and that the number comes back to an unknown location in Africa.

"Please be aware of this scam and others that offer amazing things for a price. If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is," police said.
