On March 20, 1982, Norwalk Police Officer Marcos Carias died in the line of duty.

This is the 33rd anniversary of his end of watch, and the Norwalk Police Department is paying tribute to him on its Facebook page

Carias had served the community of Norwalk for two years.

Shortly after midnight on March 20, 1982, he was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident while operating an undercover State Police vehicle.

He had completed his undercover investigative duties, as part of his assignment to the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, and was returning the vehicle to the State Police Garage at Troop G, which was then in Westport. While traveling on Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury, his vehicle struck a utility pole. He suffered multiple severe injuries and died later as a result.

Carias was 26 at the time of his death.
