Norwalk Police: Bridgeport Man Misused City 911 System

NORWALK, Conn. – A 25-year-old Bridgeport man who got into an argument with his child’s mother was arrested on misdemeanor charges of threatening and misuse of the 911 system Wednesday when he called with fabricated allegations against the woman, police said.

Anthony Velez, of 106 Merriam St. in Bridgeport, called Norwalk Police 911 dispatchers twice to complain about the woman, police said. Velez said the woman and other occupants in the Gregory Boulevard home where she lives were high on pills and heroin and the child was in jeopardy, police said.

Officers who went to the Gregory Boulevard home said they discovered none of the occupants were high, the baby was safely asleep and there were no problems at the residence.

During the 911 calls, Velez swore at the dispatchers and was verbally abusive, and he threatened to “hurt somebody” if his reports were not investigated, police said. Officers listened to tapes of the calls and determined Velez’s behavior warranted their attention.

Bridgeport police arrested Velez in his home and turned him over to Norwalk police. Velez continued his rants at officers during his arrest, police said.

Velez was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court Thursday.
