A clerk at the Global gas station on Main Street called to report the incident at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday. The clerk reportedly told police a man had entered the store and began pacing near an ATM, according to the police report.
The suspect then moved behind the clerk and pulled out a box cutter when the employee opened the cash drawer, police said. The suspect cut the clerk on the hand during the struggle and also received a cut himself before running out the door, according to the police report. Police do not believe the suspect took any cash from the store.
Investigators and a K-9 unit followed a trail of blood from the store to a nearby home, police said. Tyrone Tyson, 44, of Union Avenue was found there with a cut on his wrist, police said. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment before being arrested, police said.
Tyson was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment Saturday. He was held on $150,000 bond.
Investigators also believe Tyson was involved in a robbery at Subway on Belden Avenue last week, police said. In that case, a man threatened a female clerk before taking $200 to $300 from the register, according to police reports.
