NORWALK, Conn. — A 23-year-old Norwalk man was arrested on multiple charges after a domestic dispute escalated into a police standoff on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The incident began at about 1 p.m. when Ronny Mejia-Santana violated a protective order when he engaged in a domestic altercation, and later threatened other persons with a weapon, police said.

The victims were able to safely leave the area and notify Norwalk police officers, police said.

Officers responded to the address in the Colonial Village housing complex where the incident occurred, set up a barricade and evacuated some area residents of Suncrest Road, police said. The Hour reported that the SWAT team also responded to the area. The police department shut down Suncrest Road to traffic.

However, officers discovered Mejia-Santana had left the area, police said.

Officers worked swiftly and found Mejia-Santana at a different residence on West Main Street and took him into custody without incident, police said..

Mejia-Santana, who lives at 35 Merwin St., was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree threatening, unlawful restraint, violation of a protective order and fourth-degree sexual assault.

His bond was set at $50,000 with a court date of Oct. 5 in Norwalk Superior Court.
