The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a fire in a commercial building at 108 Water St. just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a call reporting smoke coming from the roof of the building. When they arrived at the Landan and Rondano Marine repair shop, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the front door of the business, fire officials said.
Engine five stretched a hose line and made entry into the store, encountering heavy fire in an office area. Fire officials said the fire did not spread outside of the office due to the fact that all the doors were closed to the rest of the repair shop. The rest of the building did encounter heavy smoke from the fire that dissipated quickly with ventilation.
The business owner was on scene and confirmed to first responders that the building was unoccupied. Multiple boats were in close proximity to the building, but the fire was extinguished before it could extend to any of them.
A total of 25 suppression personnel arrived on scene and utilized three engines, two trucks and a rescue and command car, along with support personnel from the Fire Prevention Bureau, who were on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
