NORWALK, Conn. A man and a woman were robbed at gunpoint Monday night in Norwalk while they were in their car, police said.
Police said the couple was driving in the area of Soundview Avenue and Glasser Street when they were flagged down by a man on the side of the road. They described him as a black man, about 6-feet, 2-inches tall with dreadlocks and wearing jeans and a T-shirt. The couple told police he asked for directions to some place with an odd-sounding name.
The boyfriend was sitting in the passenger seat and pulled out his phone to look up directions. At that point, the man outside the car pulled out a gun and put it to the boyfriends head, telling the couple to give him their phones and money, police said. The boyfriend complied, handing over the phone and his cash, which totaled less than $100.
When the man pointed the gun at the girlfriend, police said she started to tell him that he didn't need to rob her and they weren't going to call the police. The boyfriend then hit the man on the hand in an attempt to either distract him or knock the gun out of his hand, police said. He wasn't able to knock the gun out of his hand, but the man took off running down a hill, police said.
The couple circled around, but were unable to locate the man. They then went home and called the police.
