NORWALK, Conn. A convicted drug dealer who allegedly tried to rob a South Norwalk store owner Monday morning was arrested after the owner left the building and rolled down the security grate, Norwalk police said.
Michael Fagan, 30, of 31 Stuart St., allegedly broke a sink trying to escape through a bathroom ceiling, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said.
Fagan protested his innocence when police arrived at 284 Ely Ave. at 8:30 a.m., Cotto said. "I didn't do anything," he said as he was taken into custody.
The store owner said he had opened at 7:15 a.m. and was getting the variety store ready for the day when Fagan came up behind him with a knife, demanding money, Cotto said. Police did not find a knife.
Fagan was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor, and first-degree robbery, a class B felony. He was held on $100,000 bond.
Fagan's prior convictions include sale of hallucinogenic/narcotic drugs and risk of injury to a child, both felonies, in 2007. He was sentenced to four years in jail. In 2011 he was convicted of second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace, all misdemeanors. He was given an unconditional discharge on those convictions.
Police have contacted Fagan's parole officer. They hope to review the store's video surveillance footage.
