The incident unfolded on Thursday, Nov. 19, at around 1:18 p.m. on Interstate 84 in Charlton when a Massachusetts State Police Trooper attempted to pull over a dark-blue Honda Accord that was allegedly speeding and weaving in and out of traffic, police said.

The 2015 Accord was registered in North Carolina and the driver allegedly did not stop and tried to escape police by driving at speeds up to 130 mph.

The Accord pulled off 84 at Exit 3A onto Route 20 going east, police said. At that point Charlton Police got involved, spotted the car, and attempted to pull it over, police said. Again, the driver allegedly refused to stop and drove fast until crashing the vehicle on Route 20 at H. Putnam Road, police said.

After the crash, the two people in the vehicle, a man and a woman, allegedly got out and made a run for it, police said. They were quickly apprehended, police said.

State Police K-9 Kody also responded to the incident to help search for evidence along the route the suspects ran after the crash. Kody pulled toward a shed and started nosing around in the leaves. He seemed to smell narcotics.

Upon further investigation, police allegedly found a large cylindrical package wrapped in tape inside a condom, police said. The package was found near where the woman had been captured, police said. It contained what police believed to be cocaine - about 80 grams worth.

The following people were arrested:

Blair Thornton, 25, of NYC, the alleged driver, has been charged with failure to stop for police, speeding, marked lanes violation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash that caused property damage, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, breakdown lane violation, and distributing the peace, police said.

Shantia Crocker-Carter, 23, of NYC, the alleged passenger, has been charged with trafficking cocaine and disturbing the peace, police said. Police allege Crocker-Carter had plans to deliver the coke to a waiting person in Central Massachusetts.

Thornton sustained minor injuries in the crash, police said, and was treated and released from Harrington Hospital.
