William O'Neill, 85, Norwalk Dealership Manager

NORWALK, Conn. – William P. O'Neill of Norwalk died July 29. He was 85. 

The son of Charles and Bridget O'Neill, he was born in New Haven, where he spent his early years. Known as Bill to friends and family, O'Neill served in the U.S. Army as part of Gen. Mark Clark's armored guard stationed in Vienna, Austria. 

He worked as a car salesman and dealership general manager, earning master salesman status from Pontiac, his favorite make. O'Neill served on the board of directors of the Norwalk Senior Center. His greatest joy was his family, for whom he enjoyed cooking. 

O'Neill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria DiDio O'Neill; two daughters, Brenna (Rick) Lusardo, of Norwalk, and Tara (Omar) Moneim, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Terry (Virginia) O'Neill, of Eagle, Mich.; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; an aunt, Eileen Manning; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Charles. 

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory in Norwalk is handling arrangements.
