NORWALK, Conn. -- Nettie (Schiller) Janis -- an Orange resident, formerly a longtime resident of Norwalk -- died on Saturday, March 12. She was 99.
Born in Brooklyn, Janis and her new husband moved to Norwalk to start their family. She worked for the Norwalk Community College, was a longtime member of Temple Beth El and volunteered in several charitable organizations.
Janis was an avid golfer and tennis player, playing both sports into her 90s. "A talented artist, Nettie created beautiful sculptures and oil paintings which will be appreciated forever by her family," information from the funeral home noted.
She is survived by her children, Leslie and her husband Nicholas Carone of West Haven, Roy and his wife Ann of Andover, Massachusetts; grandchildren Susan Palmer and Kenneth Carone; and great-grandchildren Haley Palmer, Andrew Carone and Matthew Carone.
Janis was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Saul Janis.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, in Independent Hebrew Society/Temple Shalom Cemetery, 143 Richards Ave., in Norwalk. Collins Funeral Home, in Norwalk, is assisting with arrangements.
