NORWALK, Conn. - Louis J. Pernicka of Norwalk died Aug. 31. He was 89.
Pernicka was born in Chicago, the son of Louis V. and Anna (Mach) Pernicka. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII and a member of the 57th Fighter Group, 66th Fighter Squadron. He was instrumental in the design and setup of the P47 Exhibit at the New England Air Museum, where he was a volunteer. He retired as vice president at the American Can Company in the Industrial Engineering Division. He was a lifetime learner at Norwalk Community College and a longtime member of the Darien Men’s Club.
Pernicka is survived by his son, Robert L. Pernicka (Barbara,) of West Hartford; a daughter, Susan J. Morgan, of Killingworth; a brother, Edward Pernicka, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a son-in-law, Frank Gabrielli, of South Windsor; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Violet M. Pernicka; and daughter, Gayle Ann Gabrielli. Calling hours are from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 6 in Norwalk’s Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall St. Interment with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced.
