NORWALK, Conn. Jessie Mae Abraham, a longtime Norwalk resident, died July 18. She was 77.
Abraham was born Jan. 15, 1935, in Santee, S.C., to Early Keels and Mazzie Fogle Keels. In 1952 she moved to Norwalk, where she was a resident for more than 50 years. Known affectionately as "Jess," Abraham worked as a shoemaker for Sherman Brothers in Norwalk for many years. She was married to Daniel Abraham Jr.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Abraham, of Norwalk, Cynthia Murphy, of Bridgeport, and Wanda Abraham, of Norwalk; a son, Kenneth (Michele) Abraham, of Norwalk; a "special son," Anthony (Tracy) Buchanan, of Shelton; a brother, Earl (Vivian) Keels, of Norwalk; two sisters, Julia Butler, of Santee, S.C., and Mazzie (Leonard) Williams, of Norwalk; two "special sisters," Gelain (Julius) Shaw, of Holy Hill, S.C., and Joann Thomas, of Deland, Fla.; 28 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by three brothers, George Keels, Edward Keels and Jake Keels; and a sister, Rosa Mae Keels.
Funeral services will begin with a viewing at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Norwalk. The service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Marlon Smith officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery. Baker-Isaac Funeral Services in Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements.
