Born in Winthrop, Mass., he was son of Einar and Gladys Tangard. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University and worked at Pitney Bowes for 34 years before his retirement. A resident of Norwalk for 60 years, he was married to Elsa Logiurato Tangard, who predeceased him in 2007.
Tangard served in the Army with the 413th Infantry Regiment 104th Division during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and several other military honors. A prolific photographer, he leaves behind an extensive collection of family photographs and home movies.
He was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on the Green for 50 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 12, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 603 and the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
He is survived by a brother, Dick Tangard, of Lynnfield, Mass.; three sons, Richard (Sophie) Tangard, of Richmond, Va., Mark Tangard, of San Francisco, and Christian (Julie) Tangard, of Norwalk; and three grandchildren.
A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. Calling hours will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Lady Chapel of St. Paul’s Church on the Green in Norwalk. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m., with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk.
