Celine LaFleur McCarthy, 75, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Celine LaFleur McCarthy, 75, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Celine LaFleur McCarthy worked as a floor nurse and then as the infection control specialist at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk for 25 years.

She was born in Springfield, Mass., on April 12, 1940, to Edna Mae (Charest) and Irving LaFleur and was raised in Agawam, Mass.

She graduated from Agawam High School in 1957, and then from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1960, where she became a certified registered nurse, beginning her career. 

In 1963, she married her husband and after being transferred to several different places, they made their home in Norwalk for 42 years, where they raised their daughters and spent precious moments with their grandchildren.

She worked as a floor nurse and then as the infection control specialist at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk for 25 years. She also worked for a few years as a teaching assistant at Naramake Elementary School in Norwalk. 

After finally retiring, she continued her life of serving others by volunteering at Notre Dame twice a week right up until she was no longer able to do so. A devout Catholic, she attended church regularly at St. Jerome Parish in Norwalk.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John James McCarthy; their children Mary (Michael Arbisi) of Wilton; Susan (Richard Devine) of Norwalk; Nancy (Mike Van Bramer) of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, as well as her older brother.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 27 from 5-8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
