The fire began just after 12:45 a.m. in the basement of a home on 4 Tonetta Circle. Flames quickly extended to the first floor. The homeowner escaped safely before the fire reached them, the Norwalk Fire Department said.
Norwalk firefighters reported the basement and multiple first-floor rooms sustained significant damage, but no injuries were reported.
Authorities used the incident to highlight the importance of regularly replacing smoke alarm batteries. They urged residents to use the time change as a reminder.
