NORWALK, Conn. A Norwalk woman was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with drug possession during a motor vehicle stop in connection with an allegedly broken windshield, Norwalk police say. Betty Rorie, 47, of 18 Bedford Ave., was sitting in the back seat and tried to hide a cigarette box containing narcotics under her armpit, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said.
The car was stopped at 4:40 p.m. on Maple Street near Prospect Street because the front windshield was severely cracked, Cotto said. Two men were in the front seat. Rorie was in the back, breathing heavily. She crushed a Newport cigarette and tried to hide something under her left armpit, behaving suspiciously.
The officer had her step out of the vehicle. She denied having a cigarette box, but when the officer said he had seen her put it under her arm she started to cry, Cotto said. Two red glassine baggies with a hard, rock-like substance were in the box, and two more baggies were in her seat with a glass pipe.
The driver was given a verbal warning. Rorie was charged with use and possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics near a school, sale/possession within distance of a school, illegal manufacture/sale/possession/distribution, and possession of paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school. Bond was set at $15,000.
Also on the police blotter:
A New Jersey man hit his girlfriend with a baseball bat Saturday in Norwalk, police say. She locked him out of the apartment they were visiting, Cotto said, and a verbal argument ensued. After she let him back in she was locked out, until he came out and hit her with the bat. She was treated at Norwalk Hospital and released. Dwayne Harper, 25, of East Orange, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree assault and criminal impersonation. Bond was set at $25,000.
A woman was sexually assaulted in her own home last week by a man who rents a room there, police say. Jose Villatoro-Dominguez, 25, of Raymond Terrace, was arrested Wednesday in the case.
The 40-year-old married woman said Villatoro-Dominguez appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of vodka as he followed her from room to room, saying he wanted to have sex with her, according to Cotto. He took his shirt off, tried to kiss her and touch her, and blocked her path. She escaped and called police from a friend's house.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and fourth-degree sexual assault. Bond was set at $10,000.
