NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk residents should be prepared for extreme heat over the weekend as the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the area, lasting through Sunday.
The combination of the heat and humidity will increase the risk for heat related health issues, especially for the elderly, young children, those with chronic health problems and people working outdoors.
Residents who work outside should take extra precautions by wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water.
Residents should use air conditioning to stay cool at home, or go to a place that has air conditioning.
Norwalk residents can go to local public libraries or the Community Room in the Police Department if necessary to stay cool.
In addition, check on vulnerable family or friends and do not leave children or pets alone in parked cars during these extreme temperatures.
With the high heat and humidity, also comes the increased risk of severe thunderstorms. Residents are being encouraged to monitor the weather throughout the weekend for the most current forecast and adjust plans as needed.
