Morris, a Democrat, has represented the 140th District since 2006, and has also filed paperwork to run for Mayor of Norwalk against incumbent Democrat Harry Rilling, according to the Hour. He served as school climate officer for Norwalk Public Schools, until the position was eliminated last year, the Hour reported.
His lawsuit claims discrimination based on race, color and his status as a state legislator, as well as retaliation for opposition to discriminatory practices, and invasion of privacy, according to the Hour. He is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney's fees, according to the Hour.
Among his complaints, Morris states in his lawsuit that he and other African American employees were discriminated against, the Hour reported. He also claims that he was unfairly disciplined and terminated, and that the defendants invaded his privacy by publicizing settlement discussions, according to the Hour.
The Board of Education chairman told the Hour that the board would contest the lawsuit's claims vigorously, and a lawyer for the city said that the defendants have until the end of July to respond, according to the Hour.
