Norwalk Man Held in Machine Pistol Case

NORWALK, Conn. – An 18-year-old Norwalk man is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond after he was arrested on a warrant at Norwalk Superior Court Friday morning, Norwalk Police say. Jaime Crespo, of 45 Grandview Ave., was involved in a Jan. 18 armed subject incident, according to Sgt. Lisa Cotto. Police found a loaded machine pistol outside a Coldspring Street home and arrested a city youth and Crespo's mother.

Police were called to Academy Street at 10:51 a.m. Jan. 18 by someone who thought he saw a gun visible under a young man's shirt. Two men had left the area in a green Mini Cooper with a convertible rag top.

Police found the unoccupied car parked on Magnolia Avenue a short while later. Nearby they encountered Ramsey Gomez, 18, of 21 Coldspring St., who, according to Sgt. Dave O'Connor, was dressed inappropriately for the weather. He was out of breath, as if he had been running, and very nervous. Police searched for the reported weapon at Gomez' home and found a 9mm MAC-11 machine pistol buried in leaves out front, O'Connor said.

It had a cartridge in the chamber and was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, he said.

Police were led to believe that the other person in the car had gone to 45 Grandview Ave. to change and might still be in the home, O'Connor said. Police went there and found the door open. They went inside to look for the suspect. They found no one, but discovered marijuana in plain view. Migdalia Crespo, 45, returned a short while later and was arrested because she tried to hide the marijuana, police said.

Based on further investigation, a warrant was signed for Jaime Crespo, who had a court hearing Friday for a pending case. He was arrested and charged with carrying a gun without a permit, conspiracy, possession of a machine gun, weapons in a motor vehicle and altering the ID on a gun.
