NORWALK, Conn. -- Public officials object to the opening of a prison re-entry facility on Quintard Avenue in Norwalk, according to The Hour.
Norwalk Mayor Harry W. Rilling said he supports aiding individuals in their society re-entry post-jail but does not consider the halfway house "the right place," said the report.
The mayor was at a meeting of more than 100 of the Quintard Avenue Neighborhood Association at 19 Quintard Ave. Thursday, said The Hour report.
“We support halfway houses, that when somebody’s coming out of prison we want to help them integrate back into mainstream life. That’s a good thing,” Rilling told The Hour.
“However, there are certain places in the city of Norwalk where you can’t have them, and this is one of them.”
Norwalk's rules governing zoning prohibit this type of use on Quintard Avenue, said The Hour.
The Quintard Avenue Neighborhood Association is calling for all area residents to oppose the opening of a prison re-entry facility at 17 Quintard Ave.
