A Norwalk man came home Tuesday afternoon to find a woman raiding a refrigerator he keeps outside to store extra food. The refrigerator is kept out of sight behind the garage at his Burritt Avenue home. When he asked the woman, who had a shopping bag filled with food, what she was doing, an argument ensued, the Norwalk Police reported. Other family members came out of the house and got involved in the argument, too.
The police were called and they charged Maria Santiago, 48, with burglary. Bond was $2,500. Santiago listed her address as 4 Merritt St., the address of the Norwalk Emergency Shelter.
There was also a freezer behind the house, and police said she had food from there also.
