Andy Garfunkel has withdrawn from the race for secretary of the state of Connecticut. Garfunkel, Norwalks town clerk for nine years, declared his candidacy five months ago and said he spent his evenings and weekends campaigning throughout the state. While it has been an honor to have been a statewide candidate, I have come to realize that my heart and soul remain in Norwalk, he said in a prepared statement. My history and future lives in Norwalk.
Garfunkel thanked his campaign staff and pledged to help elect the next secretary of the state. His withdrawl leaves three remaining candidates seeking the Democratic nomination state Sen. Jonathan Harris, state Rep. Denise Merrill and former New Haven Alderman Gerry Garcia. The Connecticut Democratic Party will hold its nominating convention in Hartford beginning May 21 when they will select their nominee.
