Falling branches interrupted a wedding ceremony in Cranbury Park Saturday evening and sent two guests to the hospital. Just as the newlyweds, Tom and Maria Ellis, were completing their vows, high winds snapped the top of a pine tree. A large branch hit Boyette Hunter of Mobile, Alabama, the father of the maid of honor. Hunter was knocked down but remained conscious.
"It all happened so fast," said Doug Frye of Brooklyn, NY. "By the time I jumped up, others had already removed the branch. It was amazing."
Norwalk Police officers and emergency personnel responded around 7:00 p.m. An ambulance transported Hunter to the hospital but his injuries did not appear to be serious. He was accompanied by his wife, Patricia. The mother of the bride, Rosa Saenz, received medical attention at the scene and was transported to the hospital. Her injuries did not appear to be serious.
The bridal couple and their 260 guests moved indoors to finish the ceremony. Though they said they were "in shock," the newlyweds were grateful no one else was hurt.
