A Fairfield County courthouse had to be evacuated when a suspicious white powdery substance was found, the mayor said.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton posted on Facebook on Thursday, Feb. 27 that the Danbury Superior Courthouse was evacuated when a powdery substance was found.

The mayor wrote that the fire department responded to the scene on White Street following the evacuation.

“FD on scene at 146 White Street Superior court for a white powder substance. Building evacuated and we are in the process of testing the substance. #Danbury," Boughton wrote. He later updated that the “white powder issue should not be a problem according to (Danbury Police) Chief (TJ) Wiedl.”

The substance is currently being tested to determine what it is. There have been no reports of injuries or any adverse reactions from officials.
