The number of people in the Intensive Care Units of the Hartford and Yale New Haven healthcare systems has skyrocketed since the start of October.

About a month ago, there were two COVID-19 patients among the Yale system’s hospitals, which include Yale New Haven, Bridgeport, Lawrence and Memorial, Greenwich, and Westerly hospitals.

Today there are 22 patients in Yale’s ICUs, according to a report in the New Haven Register.

As for the Hartford health care system, there were 47 COVID-19 ICU patients on Oct. 1 and now there are 97. Hartford’s system includes Hartford, Backus, Charolette Hungerford, Central Connecticut, Midstate Connecticut, Windham, and St. Vincent’s hospitals.

Medical professionals said the uptick is in line with the increased COVID-19 cases spreading throughout the country.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized is going up across Connecticut. Connecticut does not post data on ICU hospitalizations, so the following is a list of how many people in each county were hospitalized on Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to the Connecticut Department of Public Health:

Fairfield - 68,

Hartford - 106,

Litchfield - 1,

New Haven - 83,

New London - 24,

Tolland - 3,

Windham - 4.
