NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk residents have until the end of June to obtain or renew legally required dog licenses or face financial penalties, according to a press release.

Any dogs older than 6 months old must be licensed through the Norwalk Town Clerk’s office; owners with unlicensed dogs could be fined $75.

All currently registered dog owners should receive a renewal notice in the mail, and have the option to mail in their renewal paperwork and fees.

Neutered and spayed dog licenses cost $8 each, while the fee for unaltered dogs is $19.

If the license is not renewed or obtained before Wednesday, July 1, additional fees of $1 per month will apply.

A current rabies certificate signed by a veterinarian must accompany new and renewal dog license applications.

Additionally, a neutering or spaying certificate must be presented in order for the owner to qualify for the lower dog licensing fee.

Dog licenses can be obtained from the Norwalk Town Clerk, Room 102 in City Hall at 125 East Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 8:30 a.m. to7 p.m. Thursdays.

A low-cost rabies vaccination clinic will be from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 7, at the Norwalk Animal Control Shelter, 13 S. Smith St. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in carriers; the cost is $20 payable only in cash.

The animal shelter also will have dog licenses for sale between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or by appointment Saturdays.
