It's official! The Daily Norwalk welcomed more than 200 guests to our launch party at the Hilton Garden Inn on April 29, where local dignitaries Mayor Richard Moccia and Chief of Police Harry Rilling presided over the ribbon cutting - or attempt thereof. "The ribbon has been symbolically cut," joked Mayor Moccia after struggling with a pair of oversized scissors. "I think these things need to be sharpened."
The Mayor's good humor was highly appreciated, but it was his remarks on The Daily Norwalk's progress that truly meant something to those of us on staff. "What I really like about The Daily Norwalk is that they report the facts, they don't interpret them," he said. He recalled a conversation between himself and our President, John Falcone. "When we first met, John said to me, 'I know some days we'll have to report on the bad things that happen. But we won't report them with a sense of glee.'"
The Mayor hit the nail on the head: From the very start, our Publisher and CEO Carll Tucker's vision has been to celebrate our community and make valuable connections for its members. The party was a perfect example of this strategy, with locals of every stripe - from business owners to volunteers to healthcare advocates - mingling and talking about what matters most to them. Many thanks to those of you who attended our debut. If you couldn't be there, don't worry - we'll catch you at the next one.
