NORWALK, Conn. A driver had to be extricated by firefighters when a car hit a tree on a slushy Merritt Parkway in Norwalk around 6:15 a.m. Friday, Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott said.
A light rain was falling and the sides of the road were coated with slush when the car spun out and hit a tree in the northbound lanes between exits 40 and 41. The driver, whose name was not released, and a child who had been riding in a car seat were taken to Norwalk Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Prescott said. Another passenger refused treatment.
The right lane and shoulder were closed for about a half-hour after the crash.
