Items suitable for collection include furniture, appliances and other household items that are not part of the normal, weekly collection. Bulk pickup is open only to residential addresses.

Items must be neat, orderly and placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on the day of pickup. Items may not be placed at the curb longer than two days before pickup day.

Items should not be placed near a mailbox, fence or utility pole and should not block sidewalks or streets, according to the statement.

The city of Norwalk has scheduled its bulky item collections for several Saturdays in April and early May.

According to the city, the amount of bulky items eligible for pickup is limited to 6 cubic yards per residence, which is about the size of a couch and large chair with small items placed on top or a space about 6-feet long, 6-feet wide and 4-feet high.

Items should be organized by material, the city said, adding that metal items should be placed together, rugs should be placed together, and so on. Cardboard boxes – either full or empty – should not be included in the pickup.

Bulky items also must only be placed in front of the residence where they came from, the city said, adding that adding items to a neighbor’s pile is considered illegal dumping.

Any items that do not adhere to the city’s guidelines will be stickered or tagged and left where they are. Anyone who believes their items were missed should call Customer Service on the Monday after the pickup.

The 2017 Spring Bulky Item Collection Schedule is:

  • Saturday, April 1: Residents with Monday garbage collection
  • Saturday, April 8: Residents with Tuesday garbage collection
  • Saturday April 22: Residents with Wednesday garbage collection
  • Saturday, April 29: Residents with Thursday garbage collection
