Christian Olsen reports that he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in his chest and abdomen on Dec. 23, according to his GoFundMe.com page. He is trying to raise $50,000 through the website. He has raised more than $22,000 from 285 people in a month.
"Nearly all of those affected with this extremely rare and fatal cancer have it in their chest or abdomen, not both," Olsen said on his page. "My hope and ultimate goal is to stick around this earth long enough for a cure to be found."
Olsen says on his page that, with a 5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter, the only thing on his mind is curative surgery, but it is "extremely invasive and complicated."
"I plan to undergo two major procedures followed by a harsh chemotherapy regimen," he said on the page. "The surgery, recovery and all needed support is extremely expensive and I am without adequate insurance coverage for out of state treatment caused by my inability to hold a full time job due to my poor medical condition."
Christian Olsen's wife, Lisa, provided an update on the page in January.
"We Thank everyone for your continued support at this time, we have had some very discouraging days," she said on the page. "But we will prevail. My husband is very strong as most know. I thank you all for your love and prayers."
