A Connecticut man was arrested after police said he beat his former mother-in-law, a 70-year-old woman, to death with a bat at a Trumbull apartment complex, authorities said.

Ylli Shtopaku, 45, of Norwalk, is charged with murder in the attack at Ten Trumbull Apartment Complex on Oakview Drive in Trumbull, police said.

Police say Shtopaku and Lida Shape, of Trumbull, had been related by marriage before a divorce.

Witnesses told police that Shtopaku confronted several women he knew outside the main entrance of the complex. During an argument, Shtopaku walked to his vehicle, grabbed a baseball bat, chased Shape down, and struck her with it, authorities said. Officials didn't say when the attack happened.

Shtopaku is being held on a $3 million bond, authorities said.

Trumbull police said they are continuing to investigate the incident. Authorities urge anyone with information about it to call investigators at 203-261-3665.
