Opened in 1971, the second-generation owner of the shop, Robert (Bobby) Cox, is described as a marine veteran and lifetime body man and mechanic. The shop, which officially closed as of Friday, Sept. 6 after 48 years, handled everything from frame and bodywork to insurance claims, towing and more.

Reflecting on his successful career as a business owner and auto mechanic, Cox said his favorite aspect of running the shop was seeing and being able to help all the friendly faces of Norwalk.

“Without a doubt, my favorite aspect was meeting, helping and working with all the different people and their families through all the years we were in Norwalk,” Cox told the Daily Voice. “The residents are absolutely fantastic, and we will miss seeing, talking and working with everyone that we have had the pleasure of meeting!”

Now that Cox has plenty of free time to enjoy his retirement, he plans to fill it with relaxation. He’s also looking forward to spending time with loved ones, hitting the golf course and catching up on some well-deserved sleep.

“As for retirement plans, I’m hoping to sleep a little more, relax a little more, enjoy my family and friends more and most of all get a few extra games of golf in!” Cox said.
