The event features a special admission discount for children, treasure hunts, roaming sword-fighters, a prom-dress collection for princesses in need and more. This weekend, for each paying adult, one child (age 3-12) dressed as a pirate or princess receives free aquarium admission.

During the two days, guests can follow a treasure map through the aquarium, encounter strolling pirates and princesses, learn about real pirates of Long Island Sound, join in making pirate and princess crafts, and more. Also, kids can supplement their pirate or princess appearance with creative face-painting by Faces by Wells, available for free with admission both days between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

More young fun awaits in an inflatable slide and obstacle course, free with aquarium admission both days. The aquarium’s Toy Boat Workshop takes a special pirate flair during “Pirates and Princesses Weekend.” Raise the Jolly Roger as you design your own pirate wooden boat. (There’s a $5 fee to build a boat).

For princesses who need a ball gown, the aquarium welcomes The Princess & The Prom, a not- for-profit organization that works to provide area girls in need with a complimentary prom gown. Acceptable donations include current prom dresses and recent bridesmaids gowns, evening gowns and cocktail gowns, as well as glass slippers and other accessories. Aquarium guests can drop off no-longer-needed gowns both days at a special collection table.

Also March 5-6, The Maritime Aquarium is partnering with SolarCity, Connecticut’s largest residential solar provider. Stop by their staffed table to learn how our energy consumption impacts Long Island Sound and how you can be part of the solution.
