NORWALK, Conn. — The work of Walt Whitman, T.S. Eliot and William Shakespeare as well as many other renowned poets, will echo through several restaurants at the fourth annual Norwalk Lit Crawl.

The event will take place Wednesday, April 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. The cost is $10, which will go to a good cause — Literacy Volunteers.

At each restaurant, about 10 people will read up to five minutes of poetry in honor of National Poetry Month.

Participating restaurants will provide free appetizers and a cash bar for all attendees.

“The purpose of the event is for people to have a fun evening while giving Norwalk restaurants exposure to the public. It’s a really fun, different night," said Norwalk resident Erin Herring, who is one of the readers.

"Every year we have been getting more and more people to participate. Last year, about 50 people came, just in the restaurant that I was reading in," she said. "I read an excerpt from 'To Kill a Mockingbird.' It was a favorite story of mine."

This year, Herring Is reading a collection of poetry written by her sister, Anne McNeil McLaughlin, who died of ovarian cancer. “She was my mentor and best friend," Herring said.
