NORWALK, Conn. — For over 50 years, on the first Thursday in May, millions have gathered in communities across the nation to pray for one another and for the world in an event known as the National Day of Prayer.
This year, Norwalk Prays will meet in two locations on May 5 to pray for the city and its people:
- A noon to 1 p.m. lunch event at the SONO Community Center, and a
- 7 to 8 p.m. event with refreshments at the Norwalk United Methodist Church.
"We welcome all churches to participate in order to unite our city and create a strong sense of community through the long-standing American tradition of public prayer," said a statement from the Norwalk Prays Coordinators. "We invite you to participate in our program as we pray for issues facing our city."
Throughout the program, different individuals from the churches and the community will offer prayers.
There will also be music and an opportunity for open prayer.
Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling will be giving the opening remarks at noon at the SoNo Community Center. Norwalk State Sen. Bob Duff will be giving the opening remarks at 7 p.m.
