WESTPORT, Conn. -- It’s not unusual that local talent -- in the form of several Norwalk actors -- is on display at the Westport Community Theatre’s production of “The Miracle Worker.”

But there is another local connection that might surprise people – the fact that Helen Keller, the blind and deaf author, political activist, and lecturer on whose life the play is based, once lived in Easton, near the Westport line.

Norwalk actors Glenn Ghirardi (as James Keller), Sam Mink (as Captain Keller) and Elayne Mordoff (as Aunt Ev) are cast in this triumphant story of the human spirit.

“The Miracle Worker” was written by William Gibson and was premiered on Broadway in 1959 with Patty Duke as Helen Keller and Anne Bancroft as her teacher, Annie Sullivan.

“We are excited to produce this family-oriented show during the holidays,” said the play's director, Richard Mancini. “Audiences will be inspired by this powerful story that tugs at one’s heartstrings.”

Ghirardi graduated from the Meisner Technique training program at The William Esper Studio and has also portrayed Daniel Kaffee in "A Few Good Men" with the Bridgeport Theatre Company, Spike in "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" with the Carriage House Arts Center/Wilton Playshop, and Clifford Anderson in "Deathtrap" with the Two Planks Theatre.

Mink has been involved in multiple shows at WCT for over 40 years, including the recent Bill Meyer Scholarship reading of "Our Town," "The Crucible," "Nine" and "Glengarry Glen Ross."

Mordoff returns to Westport where she has appeared as Mrs. Rogers in "And Then There Were None" and as Rebecca Nurse in the acclaimed production of "The Crucible." At Curtain Call, she was seen as Mrs. Kirby in "You Can’t Take It With You" and for The Town Players of New Canaan she played Pearl in "The Prisoner of Second Avenue."

The dramatic Tony Award-winning play is running at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, through Dec. 13.

There will be a Thursday, Dec. 3, performance at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $23 for the general public and $21 for seniors and students. They can be purchased by clicking here, or by calling (203) 226-1983.

The Westport Community Theatre is located at 110 Myrtle Ave.
