Whole Foods Around Fairfield County To Hold Educational Events

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - As part of Whole Food's Whole Kids Foundations efforts to work with the community, the stores in Fairfield County will be holding different educational events.

The Danbury, Fairfield and Westport locations will be partnering with Sandy Hook Peaceful Arts to create peace flags to share with folks in Newtown and the surrounding areas at Edmond Town Hall on Saturday, Sept. 7.

In Darien, Whole Foods is partnering with Green Village Initiative to help clean up the town's new bird sanctuary on Saturday, Sept. 7.

On Wednesday Sept. 11, the Greenwich Whole Foods will be working with Putnam Indian Field School and the Greenwich Garden Education Center to create a school garden.

Here is more information about each event:

Danbury, Fairfield and Westport Whole Foods Markets: In partnership with Sandy Hook Peaceful Arts, kids will create peace flags to be shared with local first responders, organizations, businesses and individuals in Newtown and the surrounding communities. Families will have a chance to engage in discussions about expressing gratitude and what it means to cultivate peace in our lives. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food donation to the event for the Newtown Food Bank. Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This even will take place in Newtown at the Edmond Town Hall at 45 Main St.

Darien Whole Foods Market: In partnership with Green Village Initiative, a Fairfield county grassroots nonprofit that creates social, economic and environmental change through local action, and the Darien Community Association, families will help clean up and beautify the association’s new bird sanctuary trail. Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will take place at the Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road, Darien.

Greenwich Whole Foods Market: In partnership with the Putnam Indian Field School and the Greenwich Garden Education Center, families will roll up their sleeves to lay down the foundation for a school garden that will act as an outdoor classroom for the preschoolers to enjoy learning and harvesting from throughout the year. The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be located at Putnam Indian Field School, 101 Indian Field Road, Greenwich.
