The latest larcenies took place on Sunday, Jan. 24 at Irwin Park in New Canaan, said Chief Leon Krolikowski.

Krolikowski said a Honda Pilot and a Subaru Legacy were burglarized at the park, located at 848 Weed St.

The front passenger side window was smashed on both vehicles to access the valuables left inside.

The owners of the vehicles were using the park while the crime was being committed, the chief said.

Upon returning to their vehicles, they noticed their front passenger side window had been smashed in.

The following items were stolen from the vehicles: Two purses, a wallet, cash, credit cards, a debit card, driver’s licenses, and an iPhone 11.

Many towns in Fairfield County are experiencing similar crimes, Krolikowski said.

"It is probable that the crimes are being committed by the same suspects," he added. "Often, identity theft occurs when drivers’ licenses and credit cards are stolen."

To report a crime, contact the New Canaan Police at 203-594-3500 for assistance.
