BETHEL, Conn. -- A Bethel man's speeding ticket turned into something more serious after police discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in court, police said.
Charged with speeding, operating a motor vehicle under suspension and second-degree failure to appear in court is Airedin Islami, 46, of 79 Hoyts Hill Road.
Bethel Police said the motorist was stopped for speeding late Thursday night on Oxford Street.
A check of his license showed that his driving privileges had been suspended and that he was the subject of an active arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous arrest, police said.
Islami was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and held for arraignment on $2,600 bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
