Multiple People Stabbed By Western Mass Woman, Police Say

A Western Massachusetts woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing multiple people.

The incident took place on Sunday, August 1 around 12:30 a.m., in Hampden County when Holyoke Police responded to the area of Main and Appleton at the Racing Mart Convenience store.

According to Holyoke police, two officers entered the parking lot area of Racing Mart, activated their emergency lights, and announced their presence. 

Officers spotted a woman, later identified as Katherine Vazquez, yelling, making threats, and walking with a knife in her hand, said ​Captain Matthew Moriarty.  

Officers drew their weapons and ordered Vazquez to drop the knife. 

Vazquez ignored the officer's orders and walked away. Vazquez continued to yell and make threats towards people in the area, Moriarty said.

Vazquez directed her screaming and threats to a group of women. The two officers continued to verbally engage Vazquez and gave several more commands to drop the knife, these commands were also ignored by Vazquez.

 Officers continued to verbally engage Vazquez until Vazquez finally complied and put the knife in her pocket. Vazquez was placed under arrest.

Once Vazquez was secured the group of women, she was threatening entered a vehicle and left the scene. 

The vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was made. During the traffic stop, it was discovered there were multiple stabbing victims in the vehicle, Moriarty said.

The stab wounds appeared to be non-life-threatening. The vehicle was escorted by the Holyoke Police to the Holyoke Medical Center. 

Vazquez, age 28, of Holyoke, was charged with three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
