Man Driving Stolen Vehicle Caught After Crashing Into Cruiser On I-95, Police Say

A man driving a stolen car was caught after he crashed into a police cruiser on I-95 in Greenwich, according to police.

On Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m., Greenwich Police officers were called to the Byram area of Greenwich on a report of a possible stolen vehicle passing from New York State into Connecticut, said police.

During the attempt to stop the suspected stolen vehicle, the sole occupant, the driver fled northbound on Interstate 95, according to police.

The suspect vehicle came into collision with a Stamford K-9 patrol vehicle, then came to a stop on I-95 in Stamford near Exit 8 where the driver ran off on foot briefly and was taken into custody a short distance from the vehicle, said police.

The driver, Robert Michael Forant, 48,  of Bridgeport was taken into custody, Greenwich Police said.

He was charged with reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility-injury/property damage; first-degree larceny and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, according to police.

Forant was unable to post his set bond of $25,000 so held in custody, said police.

He is due in Stamford Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 2.
