BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – A Sandy Hook "truther" took a plea deal and agreed a suspended sentence while in court Monday, avoiding a trial in the process, according to the Connecticut Post.
Matthew Mills was sentenced to a suspended one-year prison term and two years of probation under the Alford Doctrine in a Bridgeport courtroom, the Post said. Under the Alford Doctrine, he does not admit guilt to the charge of interfering with police but concedes he could have been found guilty if he had gone to trial.
Mills was arrested after confronting the sister of slain teacher Victoria Soto at a 5K race in Stratford held in her honor in November 2015, shoving a photograph at her and insisting that the Sandy Hook massacre never happened and Soto never existed, reported the Connecticut Post.
He was also ordered to have no further contact with the Soto family, the Post noted.
Six educators, including Soto, and 20 first-graders were slain by a lone gunman in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in December 2012.
